A special summer experience has arrived at Taisho Glass Museum in Otaru, Hokkaido.

Starting June 1st, the Lampwork Bead Studio (Tombo-dama-kan) is offering a summer-limited glassblowing experience: "Mizufusen-dama" — water balloon glass beads.

Inspired by the colorful water balloons found at Japanese summer festival stalls, these charming glass beads capture the nostalgic spirit of summer in miniature form. Made into a keychain, your finished piece becomes a one-of-a-kind souvenir to carry with you every day.

Working alongside our skilled craftspeople, you'll craft your own water balloon bead from scratch using flame and glass. No two beads are ever alike — this is a truly unique, hands-on experience that can only happen here.

[Experience Period] June 1 – August 31, 2026

We hope you'll stop by during your Otaru sightseeing and take home a piece of summer.
