Summer has arrived in Otaru.
At Tombo-dama-kan, the lampwork bead workshop inside Taisho Glass Museum, the second installment of our summer limited experience has launched — introducing the "Marine Ball" (Marin-dama), starting June 17th.
This season's theme is the ocean. Choose from three charming sea creatures to capture inside your glass bead: a dolphin (blue or pink), a penguin — the ever-popular star of aquariums — and the famous locally-sourced Otaru scallop, affectionately known as "O-Tate." Watching each little creature take shape inside a shimmering glass sphere is a delight in itself.

The true joy of this experience is that no two beads are ever alike. Adjust the pressure and your penguin might come out a little round and chubby — and that's all part of the handmade charm. Finished beads can be made into straps or accessories, giving you a wearable memento of your Otaru summer.
The Marine Ball experience runs from June 17 (Tue) through August 31 (Sun). If you're visiting Otaru this summer, we warmly invite you to come by and try your hand at creating something one-of-a-kind.
