Tiny Glass Mushrooms by Masayoshi Sato

Walk through a forest in autumn and you may find mushrooms peeking out at the foot of a tree. Red caps, white speckles, colors you never expected. Crouch down to look, and time slips away.

A new work has arrived that captures that same delight in glass: Mushrooms, by Masayoshi Sato of Hatsuki Glass Studio.

Red, blue, white — mushrooms in every color and pattern, each one shaped by hand in glass. The swell of the cap, the markings across its surface, the combination of colors: no two are ever the same.

Line them up and you find yourself searching for a favorite, just as you would among real mushrooms on a forest floor.

The clarity of glass brings out their soft coloring beautifully. Hold one to the light and the color washes around to the underside of the cap, showing yet another face.
